The Professor by Charlotte Brontë
"Better to be without logic than without feeling." The Professor, 1857
The first novel completed by Charlotte Brontë told from the point of view of William Crimsworth, the hero of the novel, who escapes a dreary clerkship in industrial Yorkshire by taking a job as a teacher in Belgium. There, however, his entanglement with the sensuous but manipulative Zoraide Reuter, complicates his affections for a young girl who is an impoverished student-teacher at the school. The novel is based on Charlotte's own experiences as a language student in Brussels in 1842. At first rejected by publishers it was published posthumously in 1857.
This is a Penguin Classic paperback 1989.
