Nicholas Nickleby - Wordsworth Classics
“In journeys, as in life, it is a great deal easier to go down hill than up” Nicholas Nickleby, 1839
Nicholas Nickleby's father dies unexpectedly after losing all of his money in a poor investment. Nicholas, his mother and his younger sister, Kate, are forced to give up their comfortable lifestyle in Devonshire and travel to London to seek the aid of their only living relative the wealthy, cold-hearted Ralph Nickleby. There begins the new life of Nicholas Nickleby sent away to teach at Dotheboys Hall, a boarding school for boys run by the abusive Wackford Squeers. This is the third novel written by Charles Dickens after the success of 'The Pickwick Paper' and 'The Adventures of Oliver Twist'.
